More Than 16,000 Children’s Jewelry Items Recalled Over Excessive Lead: Health Canada
SHARE

Thousands of kids’ jewelry items have been recalled by Health Canada due to excessive levels of lead. Consumers are advised to immediately dispose of two specific pieces of jewelry sold on Amazon.ca, which were made in China.

The first recall is for Dckazz Stitch and Scrump Best Friends Necklace. The pair of necklaces with metallic blue and pink pendants are sold together in a plastic bag that has serial number X004D46BNP. Health Canada has determined that these necklaces contain lead in excess of allowable limits.

“Under the Children’s Jewellery Regulations of the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act, it is illegal to import, advertise or sell jewellery items that appeal primarily to children under 15 years of age and contain more than 90 mg/kg total lead,” Health Canada said.

Amazon reported that 6,682 units were sold in Canada from May 2023 to March 2025.

The second recall is for SUZUTOY Charm Bracelet Making Kit for Girls. The product, marketed for children over the age of four, is an arts and crafts kit that contains beads, pendants, adjustable bracelets, hair clips, keychains, and rope necklaces. It comes in a pink gift box with “Hello Princess” and “You Are My Little Princess Beautiful” written on it.

Health Canada determined through their sampling and evaluation program that lead in excess of allowable limits was found in the kit.

Amazon said 9,800 units of the product were sold in Canada from August 2023 to April 2025.

Health Canada has advised those who have purchased these products to immediately remove them from their homes.

“Consumers who have these affected products should immediately take the jewellery away from children and dispose of them according to municipal hazardous waste guidelines,” Health Canada said.

No incidents or injuries have been reported to Health Canada in relation to either of these products to date. Amazon has removed both products from its online sales and the foreign third-party sellers of the products have been contacted by Health Canada.

Lead is highly toxic and can cause serious harm if put into a child’s mouth, Health Canada said.

The health agency noted lead has a sweet taste, which can encourage children to chew, suck on, or accidentally swallow lead-containing jewelry. A top coating does not make the jewelry any safer, as the coating can easily be chewed or worn off.

“A range of serious health effects have been associated with exposure to lead and cadmium, including anemia, vomiting, diarrhea, serious brain injury, convulsions, coma, as well as effects related to the liver, kidneys, heart and immune system,” Health Canada said. “In extreme cases, there have been deaths.”

For health or safety incidents related to the use of these products, consumers can fill out the Consumer Product Incident Report form.

The Healthy Canadians Recalls and Safety Alerts database can be checked regularly for recalled dangerous products, advisories, and safety alerts.
