The Conservative Party fundraised a record-breaking $41.7 million in 2024, nearly twice as much as donations to the Liberal Party and the New Democrats combined that year, according to data provided to Elections Canada.

“Surpassing its record-breaking fundraising year of 2023, in Pierre Poilievre’s second full year as Conservative Party Leader, the Conservative Party broke all fundraising records for any political party in Canadian history,” the party said in a Jan. 31 press release.

According to filings with Elections Canada, the Liberals raised only $15.2 million in 2024, while the NDP raised $6.3 million.

The Tories fundraised $10.7 million in the first quarter of 2024, $9.8 million in the second quarter, and $8.4 million in the third quarter. The party said that by raising $12.8 million in the fourth quarter, it also broke the record for fundraising of any political party in a single quarter.

“Even with the Canada Post strike, which impacted donations by mail, in December alone the Party raised $7.6 million,” they said.

The Conservatives said their party received a total of 211,255 donations in 2024, with an average contribution of around $198. The Liberals received donations from more than 118,000 people who gave $128 on average, while the NDP had nearly 60,000 donors giving an average of $105 each.

The Liberal Party brought in $3.1 million in the first quarter, $3.8 million in the second quarter, $3.3 million in the third quarter, and $5 million in the fourth. Meanwhile, the NDP saw about $1.3 million in donations in the first, second, and third quarters and $2.4 million in the fourth.

The Tories said the rise in donations from “hardworking Canadians” was correlated to the “growing movement and resonance of Pierre Poilievre’s common sense message and promise to put Canada first.”

“It couldn’t be more clear that Canadians want a carbon tax election so a Common Sense Conservative government can axe the tax, build the homes, fix the budget and stop the crime,” they said.

The Conservative Party has been leading the Liberal Party in the polls for over a year and a half, with the latest Abacus poll released Jan. 28 showing 43 percent of committed voters would vote for the Tories compared to 22 percent for the Liberals and 18 percent for the NDP.

The next federal election could happen this spring, as all three opposition parties have said they will vote in favour of a non-confidence motion when Parliament returns from prorogation on March 24.

The Liberal Party is currently in a leadership race, which is set to end on March 9. Nearly 400,000 registered Liberals have signed up to vote in the leadership race, the party said in a Jan. 30 statement.
