Two Saskatchewan men are facing charges following an incident in Winnipeg in which a potential robbery victim had to escape by jumping from a moving vehicle.
The authorities received a call from a bystander who reported witnessing a man leaping from a moving vehicle that subsequently drove away, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a Jan. 3 press release.
Police spoke to a male victim in his 40s who said he had arranged to meet with a male acquaintance on Jan. 1 to sell a pair of high-end shoes. The man got into the acquaintance’s vehicle to complete the transaction.
“A second male, who had been hiding in the backseat, surprised the victim at gunpoint, and the vehicle sped off with the victim trapped inside,” police said. “As the vehicle accelerated, the victim managed to escape by jumping out of the moving car. The shoes also fell from the vehicle during his escape.”
The victim sustained minor injuries during the incident but declined medical attention, police said.
Police provided a description of the vehicle, which included a Saskatchewan licence plate, to the RCMP.

The two suspects were located driving near Whitewood, Sask., several hours later and were taken into custody by the Saskatchewan RCMP.
The accused were turned over to the Winnipeg Police Service’s Major Crimes Unit on Jan. 2.
Two Saskatoon men have been charged in connection with the incident
Muhammad Ehan Zawar and Syed Maaz Ali, both 20, face charges of armed robbery using a restricted or prohibited firearm and forcible confinement.
Both men were detained in custody.
